“What is
said
the first day is what is remembered; the second day one half is
remembered; the
third day all is forgotten.”-author unknown
Welcome to
the
Village of Oxford Fire Department. Your
interest in visiting our newly designed webpage inspires us. As you
scroll through our website, please
keep in mind that our members are volunteers.
We work, play and are human just like you. We pay our taxes, are
conscientious about
costs and budgets and at times find it hard to make a decent living
too. Most of our membership has kids that attend
school in Oxford or who have gone to school here, so we know a little
about our
community and most of all, know a bit about most of you.
The
members of
the Oxford Fire Department are a caring, compassionate group of people
that love
helping others in their time of need and try to treat all as we would
like to
be treated ourselves. I would like to introduce you to the Oxford
Fire Department and some of the things that makes our volunteer
membership
unique.
We have
entered
into one of the oldest and most
honorable professions in the world, even if it is only as a volunteer.
We follow in the footsteps of men and women
who forged the processes that are the foundation of what we do today.
It is our job to equal or to surpass these
men and women.
We have
seen
things firsthand most of the world has not seen: tragedy, strife, and
morbidity, and the worst that mankind has to offer. Our families have
endured mornings at home
knowing the need to be quiet because mom or dad or in some cases, both
were up
all night helping someone else, maybe a friend, neighbor or stranger in
their
time of need. To the volunteer and their
families, this is normal and it is all worth it.
You see,
when
you go home after a good day or a bad day, you can talk to your family
and
maybe they will understand and maybe they won’t. As a volunteer, I have
two families, my
“blood family” and the “family I bleed for” that I go home to. If one
doesn’t understand, the other
will. I have my brothers and sisters,
the greatest bunch of men and women on earth that provide support,
strength,
camaraderie and accept me for who I am without hesitation or prejudice.
As
volunteers,
we do not draw paychecks, but garner the rewards we gain in service,
which is
priceless. You will see miracles; you will see gifts of life as it
begins and
the fulfillment of a long life as it ends.
I have seen volunteers do great things, sometimes, extraordinary things,
viewed by none and only experienced by the benefactor or viewed by
many.
We as
volunteers embrace these moments, as they are the fuel that keep us
going
through a cold dark night and keeps us strong as we question ourselves
“Why do
I do this?”
So, if you
ever
wonder what it is about a volunteer that drives us, that makes us do
what we do
when no others can or will, it is because of you. We understand that
not everyone can go it
alone, everyone needs a little help once in a while and while it may not
always
end up the perfect outcome, you now you had someone there who cared.
Every call, every person has a story and we
are humbled to be a part of that chapter, we are blessed, we are your
volunteer
fire department.
If you
would
like more information on how to become part of the oldest tradition,
please
reach out to us, we would love to hear from you.
Sincerely
and
professionally,
Ronald
