Depending on the call we will still respond, typically if it is monitored by an
alarm company you will contact them and provide a password and they will call
Chenango County Fire Control and then we would be cancelled. Without a password to
your alarm company anyone could call and cancel us.
Depending on the smoke detector and carbon monoxide detector most smoke detectors
are every ten years and carbon monoxide detectors are around seven years. When you
change your batteries in these units, check the date on the back and replace them

Yes – but only after exiting the home! CO is an odorless, tasteless, invisible gas.
Co detectors are very sensitive and designed to alert occupants before CO reaches
dangerous levels. If your detector goes off, call 911 after evacuating the home. Be
sure to notify them if anyone in the house is experiencing flu-like symptoms. We
have specialized equipment to detect and measure the amount of CO in your home.
Please do not open doors and windows before the Fire Department arrives, because
this makes it difficult to determine the cause of any CO that may be present. Never
hesitate to call 911.
House numbers are very important for us to be able to locate your property or home
in a timely manner. It is always good to have someone out by the road to alert us of
your location. Be sure snow is clear from any identification markers so we can find
you.
Typically, you can send us an email and request one.

Village limits. In the Town it is best to avoid such a practice especially when the
burn ban is activated every March 16 to May 14.
Breaking windows and cutting holes in the roof is a tactic called ventilation. It is
a timed way of releasing hot gas and smoke from various compartments. It is used to
prevent flashovers and allows a safer function to fight fire.
You should never drive across a hose; most hoses have pressure and driving across
them can rupture a hose reducing or eliminating water to be delivered to the fire.

Depending on the call Chenango County Public Safety Dispatch Center decides based on
call information given. For any structure they send what is called a box alarm which
activates the home department and several mutual aid departments to send critical
equipment. This cuts down on time and clears radios for emergency traffic.

BINGO was stopped back during the Coronavirus pandemic and was based of an order by
NYS. Due to our lack of air exchange and fume removal it was stopped until those
modifications could be completed. We still have several areas of construction that
needs to be completed before we can safely re-start BINGO. Once these are completed,
we will re-evaluate the Friday Night Bingo games.
